The Clubhouse is the Behavioral Intervention Association's (http://www.bia4autism.org) after-school program. Once a week, children between the ages of 5 and 12, who have communication and social challenges, meet and engage in fun activities to practice different social skills. Thanks to the generosity of our friends at the Jewish Community High School of The Bay who have given us access to their beautiful campus and their committed student volunteers, we were able to bring our East Bay Clubhouse program to San Francisco.

Games Galore: Hula Hoop Toss

  • Obstacle Course: Students partnered up to go through an obstacle course. They carried a small cup with rock salt and filled a tube with the salt that we later turned into a musical instrument. Everyone was very careful not to spill the rock salt. Our favorite stomp rockets were placed at the end of the obstacle course.
  •  “Plexiglass Painting”:  Students painted a plexiglass with brushes. When the plexi was covered with paint, we placed a piece of paper on top of the plexi to make an imprint. We will create our own board game at one of our next meetings and will use the imprint as our game board.
  • Hula hoop Toss: 3 hula hoops were placed on the floor with a number inside each hoop. The students tossed bean bags into the hoops and earned points as a group when they hit the target. We practiced giving 'high 5s' to our friends during this activity.
