The Clubhouse is the Behavioral Intervention Association's (http://www.bia4autism.org) after-school program. Once a week, children between the ages of 5 and 12, who have communication and social challenges, meet and engage in fun activities to practice different social skills. Thanks to the generosity of our friends at the Jewish Community High School of The Bay who have given us access to their beautiful campus and their committed student volunteers, we were able to bring our East Bay Clubhouse program to San Francisco.

Hullabaloo (Rainy Day Fun and Magic)

Sharing a Hullabaloo pad!
Warm-up Game “Hullabaloo”:  Cranium Hullabaloo is an active listening game. The game consists of 16 pads (different shapes, colors and objects) that are spread out on the floor and the Hullabaloo device that is placed in the middle of the floor between the pads. Players move from one colorful shape to another and use their bodies to perform the many Hullabaloo moves, for example crawl to a circle, spin to a red, put your elbow on a musical instrument. When the Hullabaloo device announces, "Freeze!" the player(s) on the lucky pad win(s). This game is also a great activity to promote cooperation since the players are encouraged to share the pads.

Stomp Rocket Obstacle Course: We had not played with the stomp rockets in a very long time. So today, we took advantage that it was not raining and went outside. We partnered up  with a friend and
went through an obstacle course together: jumping from one hula hoop to the next, carrying a bin with the rockets together and then putting the rockets on the stomp rocket device to activate them.

Obstacle courses are great for promoting cooperation and teamwork since they can be set up in a way so that students work as a team and complete different tasks together that require two people such as carrying a bin together.

HISS: We loved playing the turn-taking game HISS. We worked really well together and completed 6 snakes. For a detailed description of the game see 5/24/2011.
